Mary Bauer, RN

I would like to show recognition to Mary Bauer RN, who has and continues to work for Catholic health for over 40 years. Mary has worked in various roles over the years, she worked in a very specialized role called a "float nurse" this role was incredibly difficult as she needed to train and be certified to assist on any floor of the hospital in time of need  including Intensive Care (ICU) and Critical Care (CCU). Mary currently is working as nurse educator for Catholic Health. During this time of COVID-19 Mary has worked tirelessly to get the medical staff trained at St. Joe's Hospital, Mercy Hospital and other Catholic hospitals around Buffalo.
As nurses, doctors and respiratory therapists from around Buffalo and the country come to assist  patients in need they  also need to be trained and on each hospitals Electronic Medical Record system before they can start. Mary's role in the support of the COVID-19 pandemic has been instrumental to getting these staff members up and running quickly to assist patients. Mary's dedication to the staff and patients during this time is exemplary, she takes calls at all hours  and assists even on days off. Her level of patients and kindness during this time only demonstrates
what a wonderful nurse and person she is.

Chris Bieniek, PA

Our first year Brownie troop found 7 local healthcare workers, one for each troop member. Each girl wrote a thank you card to her randomly selected person and mailed it to their place of     employment. We also raised money to purchase a few boxes of cookies for each person to take to work with them. Mr. Bieniek has a family that is known to all of our troop members. Everyday he goes to work to help other people. We are proud to know him and his family and thank him and everyone he works with for all they are doing to help people during this time, and everyday.

Dr. Meghan Bohince

Dr. Meg a graduate of HAMBURG High School in 2010 agraduate of Mercyherst University and UB Medical School as a 2nd year Resident Dr. Meg works 10 to 12 hour shifts at our local hospitals not knowing what she will confront next. Her unselfish acts of courage in these most uncertain times and being social  distanced from her family is difficult though she understands what she signed up for. She was on a cardiac floor at Buffalo General which served COVID-19 patients now at the ER at  Oshei Children’s Hospital. Meg also spends a day a week at a clinic for less fortunate on Elmwood Ave.

My nomination is for a couple. Both Joanna and Charlie, husband and wife, are registered nurses working in the emergency room at Sister’s Hospital. They risk exposure to COVID 19 everyday to care for our community. They have a young daughter at home, so take all precautions necessary. They work opposite shifts providing compassionate,      competent care for patients, then come home to care for their daughter and help her with her remote schooling.
They truly are Hamburg Healthcare Heroes!

Donna Rebelo,
Infectious Disease Control RN

I would like to nominate Donna Rebelo, RN at Elderwood at Hamburg for the Imagine:Hamburg Healthcare Hero Award. Donna has been a valued and highly respected member of the facility staff for over 30 years. She has been a true leader through the COVID-19 pandemic, putting the health and safety of our residents above all else. From the onset of the quarantine, Donna has been guiding our staff on how to remain diligent and cautious...keeping us all safe at work and when heading home to our families. The countless hours Donna has dedicated to a career she loves is  evident to all those around her. In moments of uncertainty, Donna has remained strong and provides a positive  example for the nursing team. On May 12th we will celebrate National Nurse’s Day and I believe it would very fitting to recognize such an extraordinary one, like Donna Rebelo.

Michael Koch, OTR

First year Brownie Troop 34714 recently connected with 7  different local healthcare workers. There was one recipient per girl and the matches were made randomly. Each girl wrote her healthcare worker a thank you card and mailed it to their place of employment. We then raised money to purchase a few boxes of cookies per person for our healthcare friends to take to work and share. Mr. Koch is known by most of our girls. He has a family in Hamburg with kids who go to our school. He goes to work everyday to help people. We are proud to know him and thankful for what he does these days and everyday.

Isabel Imbierowski, CNA

Isabel works very hard in the ER department, caring directly for patients suffering with complications from the coronavirus. She was at Mercy Hospital in South Buffalo for many years, but then started working at Sisters of Charity Hospital, St. Joseph Campus since it was converted to a COVID-19 treatment facility, and they really needed more staff. We're very proud of her bravery and hard work!
